Frequently asked questions
How do I know if counseling is right for me?
The best way to decide is to set up a free 15 minute consult and we can discuss what is happening and whether I may be able to help.
How long would we work together?
We will figure this out together. We can decide on a certain number of sessions to meet your goals or we can work on an ongoing or as needed basis.
Do you accept insurance?
I’m licensed in the states of Idaho and Wyoming. I’m contracted with Medicare and Idaho Medicaid, so bill them directly. Any other insurance I will give you a “superbill” which is a document for you to submit to your insurance for reimbursement.
Insurance companies will cover individual psychotherapy, but group therapy needs to be paid out-of-pocket.
What are your specialities?
I’m a generalist, but have specialized training and certification in the following areas:
Trauma - I’m certified in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) which is a very effective and frequently swift treatment for trauma.
Skills building - I’m intensively trained in DBT (Dialectical Behavior Therapy) which teaches mindfulness, interpersonal effectiveness, distress tolerance and emotion regulation skills.
Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy.
Emotional Intelligence coaching.
What’s the difference between coaching and counseling?
There are certainly overlaps between the two, but in general, coaching is about moving forward through a problem with a specific gaol in mind. Whereas counseling may often delve deeply into the past and healing is frequently the goal.
